In just it’s third growing season Simon Green Acre has produced more than 4,000 pounds of food collectively. More than 80 per cent of that food has been shared with community service agencies, and church food banks. Even better, Simon’s Green Acre has not only attracted gardening partners, but student organizations from WSSU as well.
Saturday, November 2, WSSU Live U Campus Christian Ministry volunteered at Simon’s Green Acre, located behind The Enterprise Center (former Boys & Girls Club) at 1922 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
Live U harvested 39.5 pounds of lettuce, collards, tomatoes, tomatillos, peppers, peanuts, eggplant, kale and peas — expressing a desire to come back again and help maintain the garden. We encourage other WSSU student organizations as well as those from other institutions to join us. Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Our Wednesday volunteer day has been suspended until Spring 2013.

I’m so sorry I had to stop coming to the garden regularly. I love to keep up with the blog and hope to see you at least occasionally in the spring. It’s exciting to work with such an enthusiastic crew.
